What causes happiness?

In my opinion, happiness is its own cause. Unhappiness, too, is its own cause. What gives us happiness, once, may give us unhappiness a second time. The cause of happiness and unhappiness, is that both spring from themselves. Love, too, springs from itself, there is no reason for love to manifest. This is just a thought.
